Bakken Overview

The Bakken is a large shale play located in the Williston Basin, which stretches across portions of eastern Montana and western North Dakota. The company’s position in the Bakken development area is comprised of approximately 560,000 net acres, which include 382,000 net mineral acres and 178,000 net leasehold acres. The company focuses on unconventional tight-oil play development and production in the most prolific portion of the basin. Operational and capital efficiencies continue to improve in the basin through the use of multi-well pad drilling, completion optimization, facility design changes and data analytics. In 2021, net production from the Bakken averaged 94 thousand barrels of oil equivalent per day.

If you are selected as the Williston Production Specialist, you will be field leadership supporting area leadership in execution excellence in field operations. Coaching field staff, ensuring safe work environments, and ensuring work is executed in an efficient and cost-effective manner are key deliverables. You will also be a key team advocate of HSE priorities and respecting regulatory requirements and local stakeholder relationships. This position actively engages in ensuring the team meets production and cost targets; optimization is a key focus area. As a senior and experienced operations individual, you will actively promote staff training and development.

This is a Safety Sensitive position.

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Support and comply with the policies, goals, efforts, and programs of CPC's Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) Management System

  • Ensure HSE issues are given primary consideration in all activities undertaken within area of responsibility. Unsafe acts and/or conditions, no matter in what area of responsibility, are to be reported so corrective actions can be taken

  • Participate in PSSR’s and handovers when appropriate

  • Ensure notifications are promptly submitted for all maintenance deficiencies

  • Assist and confirm that policies and procedures are followed during daily activities

  • Ensure LOTO and safe isolation procedures are always safely practiced in adherence to both ConocoPhillips and Bakken specific guidance

  • Support initiatives with Operating Integrity team in relation to training, competencies and development of standard operating procedures, guidelines, and checklists

  • Actively enable MSO development

  • Mentor and coach less experienced staff

  • Monitor production volumes; work with Engineering and the to identify and implement optimization opportunities

  • Work with Engineering and Optimization Techs to ensure fluid level data is obtained as required

  • Verify field tickets when appropriate

  • Ensure chemical programs are efficiently and effectively executed as per technical guidance

  • Liaise closely with the Business Operation Center, Production Services Team, and Engineering on troubleshooting and problem solving

  • Support the development and delivery of an effective training program for compression / rotating equipment (VRU’s) and other production services activities

  • Participate in handovers with projects, production services, well intervention and other teams as required

  • Be an active, well prepared, and constructive participant in weekly staff meetings, daily and weekly production meetings, production reviews, etc.



  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States as a U.S. citizen or national, or an alien admitted as a permanent resident, refugee or asylee

  • Current/valid driver’s license

  • 3 years of experience in oilfield operations, maintenance, and optimization

  • 3 years of experience in compression and gas lift

  • Intermediate level of proficiency with Microsoft O365 applications: Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams and Word


  • 5 years experience in oil treating, compression, and well operations

  • 1 years of experience in field, facility or well development

  • Intermediate level of knowledge in production facilities, compression, gas lift, ESP and other artificial lift systems

  • Maintains a positive attitude

  • Demonstrated leadership ability

  • Excellent team building and communication skills

  • Adequately communicate findings of issues to ensure root cause of failures are realized and shared with team members

  • Proven ability to work effectively across the entire organization with maintenance, engineering, and additional support staff
