Alaska Overview

ConocoPhillips Alaska and its heritage companies have more than 50 years of business history in Alaska. As Alaska's largest oil and gas producer, the company produced an average 182 thousand barrels of oil in 2017. ConocoPhillips, with about 1,100 Alaska employees, holds major ownership interests in the Prudhoe Bay Unit, the Kuparuk River Unit, and the Colville River Unit (Alpine). ConocoPhillips operates the Kuparuk and Alpine oil fields on the North Slope. The company has an ownership interest in the Trans Alaska Pipeline System (TAPS) and owns/operates the Polar Tankers fleet.


The Operator operates the Kuparuk production facilities, drill sites, and various equipment in the field including: wells, oil separation train, gas treating and compression, water injection pumps, miscible injection pumps, and pipeline facilities. This position is covered by a DOT and corporate drug and alcohol testing program. The position requires becoming competent and maintaining certifications in multiple operating areas.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Responsible for the safe, economic, and environmentally sound operation of assigned areas

  • Optimize well and facility performance

  • Participate in facility and drill site maintenance and expansion projects

  • Perform minor maintenance and assist maintenance technicians



  • Legally authorized to work in the United States

  • 3 years direct oilfield/petro-chemical operations experience

  • Valid driver’s license

  • Willing and able to work a 14-days on/14-days off shift schedule in a remote arctic environment, both inside and outside in harsh weather conditions

  • Willing and able to safely perform physical labor including climbing ladders/stairs, walking, standing, stooping, sitting, and carrying material periodically throughout a 12-hour shift


  • 5 years direct oilfield/petro-chemical operations experience

  • Technical degree

  • Proficient in the use of Distributed Control Systems (DCS)

  • Detailed knowledge of all aspects of production operations, including ability to read a P&ID

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills (both written and oral)

  • Ability to work in a team environment with a wide range of personnel from various companies and backgrounds

  • Able to demonstrate a history of positive past achievements with increasing responsibilities

  • Experience with a maintenance management system (SAP)

  • Demonstrated support of emergency services teams and/or employee guided safety processes

  • Experience successfully managing physical exposures include arctic temperatures, lifting moderate load, and climbing stairs/ladders

  • Takes ownership of actions and follows through on commitments by holding others accountable and standing up for what's right

  • Delivers results through realistic planning to accomplish goals

  • Generates effective solutions based on available information and makes timely decisions that are safe and ethical

  • Proven safety leader; history of safety advocacy and involvement
