Greater Kuparuk Area

The Greater Kuparuk Area, located approximately 40 miles west of Prudhoe Bay, encompasses the Kuparuk Field and four nearby satellite fields. At the end of 2018, ConocoPhillips acquired an additional 39 percent interest in the Unit. Net production from the Greater Kuparuk Area included 1 MBOED associated with additional interest acquired.


ConocoPhillips Alaska operates the Greater Kuparuk Area Oil Field on the North Slope. These activities are heavily dependent on reliable two-way radio communications for both operations and emergency services. The current radio system in use is the UHF Motorola MotoTrbo Connect Plus platform.

If you are selected as the successful 2-Way Radio Technician candidate you will work to provide day-to-day support, configuration and maintenance of the two-way radio system. Additionally, the technician will also be called upon in support of the microwave, VOIP and network infrastructure.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Participate in ConocoPhillips proactive safety processes

  • Installation of the 2-Way radio infrastructure to include portable and mobile radios, controllers, gateways and repeaters

  • Program, monitor and repair of the 2-way radio infrastructure

  • Support of the 2-way radio system including optimization as required to maintain system performance

  • Maintain Air-to-Ground VHF radio system

  • Maintain paging system

  • LAN and WAN infrastructure troubleshooting and optimization

  • Plan system upgrades and maintenance activities to minimize impact to Operations

  • End user training as required



  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States as a U.S. citizen or national, or an alien admitted as permanent resident, refugee or asylee

  • Valid driver’s license

  • 5 years experience with UHF/VHF technologies

  • 5 years experience with Motorola 2-Way Radio systems

  • 5 years experience with Service Monitor, Spectrum Analyzer

  • Willing and able (with or without a reasonable accommodation) to work in a remote-based environment working 14 days on and 14 days off schedule

  • FCC General Radio-telephone Operators License

  • Intermediate working knowledge of communications tower installations of two-way radio system components

  • Intermediate working knowledge of IP based dispatch consoles

  • Cisco CCNA Certification or 3 years of Network experience

  • Demonstrate a high degree of proficiency and experience with TELECOM infrastructure in a large enterprise environment including the installation and support of Land Mobile Radio, network hardware, microwave radios, and supporting telecom equipment

  • Willing and able to perform a variety of tower work including climbing as required to maintain communications systems

  • Working knowledge of Motorola R56 Standard

  • Working knowledge of the Genesis GW3 monitoring software

  • Team player with ability to draw on the expertise and knowledge of the team to deliver the best solutions

  • Ability to recognize and leverage workforce diversity in an inclusive manner

  • Excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills

  • Ability to work optimally in a challenging arctic environment

  • Ability to adapt to and adopt new techniques and technologies

  • Working knowledge of various test equipment used in a Land Mobile Radio environment, such as Field Fox, Service Monitors, digital Radio Test Sets, and other common test equipment

  • Familiarity with Network Management Tools, to include Cisco Works, Sniffer, NetFlow, Orion, Cascade, Pro-Vision, etc.

  • Working knowledge of the installation, maintenance and support of IP based industrial camera systems

  • Delivers results through realistic planning to accomplish goals

  • Listens actively and invites new ideas for exchanged opinions, then influences and acts to drive positive performance and achieve results

  • Builds positive relationships based on trust and seeks collaboration across organizational boundaries to achieve goals
