Permian Overview

ConocoPhillips and its heritage companies have operated in the Permian Basin for almost 100 years. Across New Mexico and Texas, the company holds conventional positions in the Northwest Shelf and Central Basin Platform, and an unconventional position in the Delaware Basin. At year-end 2020, the company held about 750 thousand net acres across the basin, with net production of 85 thousand barrels of oil equivalent per day. ConocoPhillips is committed to being an innovative and environmentally responsible operator, and the new technologies and practices that it is using in this area exemplify that.

In January 2021, ConocoPhillips completed the acquisition of Concho Resources Inc., greatly expanding the company’s position in the Permian Basin. The addition of 550,000 net acres complements the company’s position in the Delaware and Midland Basins and created a sizeable Permian presence.


The newly formed Permian Water and Low Carbon Strategy team is seeking a motivated and qualified individual for the position of Water Project Integration Manager (PIM). If you are selected as the Water Project Integration Manager (PIM), you will be a focal point for water within the Permian Business Unit (BU), providing leadership and coordination in support of strategic business needs related to water.

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Acting as the Permian BU’s single point of contact (SPOC) for water management and facilitating creation/execution of a holistic water strategy

  • Accountability for scenario planning and economic evaluations of various water management alternatives to build the Permian water management plan aligned with the Permian development plans

  • Providing mid-term and long-term water forecasts for re-use demand, produced water volumes and disposal volumes with input from Development, Planning, Drilling & Completions (D&C) and Operations. Ensuring water forecasts have been appropriately characterized and accounted for in infrastructure plans and offtake plans. Identifying bottlenecks and resolving with functional teams

  • Working with various functional groups (D&C, Operations, Planning, Commercial, Supply Chain, Land, Facilities Engineering, Subsurface, Government Affairs, Corporate SD, etc.) to coordinate input to short- and long-term strategies and ensure the water management plans are executed

  • Progressing water appraisal/pilot projects (water treatment / beneficial reuse pilot) ensuring knowledge is captured and applied in water management strategy (e.g. facility designs, infrastructure plans)

  • Leading external engagement efforts related to water inclusive of company participation in consortiums, industry collaboration, etc.

  • Collaborating with Government Affairs, Regulatory, and Stakeholder Relations on key water topics

  • Benchmarking external companies to understand external influences, such as cumulative impacts from increasing or decreasing development and potential regulatory changes to manage long term risks and adjusting strategy/plan as needed

  • Supporting potential water asset divestiture efforts

  • Accountability for inter-company, BU knowledge sharing and ensuring standard methodologies/findings from other operators are incorporated into water management plan

  • Providing regular communication with senior management regarding water issues/risks

  • Ensuring compliance with company procedures and policies for execution of water management plan



  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States as a U.S. citizen or national, or an alien admitted as a permanent resident, refugee or asylee

  • Must have received or be willing to receive the COVID-19 vaccination, by date of hire to be considered. Proof of vaccination, or ConocoPhillips approved accommodation, required

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering, geology, finance, or related fields or foreign equivalent

  • 5 years of oil and gas experience in finance, geology, engineering or related field

  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft O365 applications: Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams and Word.

  • Willing and able (with or without reasonable accommodation) to travel 10% of the time on a yearly basis


  • 3 years of experience in Facilities Engineering, Production Engineering, D&C, or Production Operations roles

  • Basic or advanced understanding/history with water management processes and water treatment technologies

  • Self-motivated and creative thinker; delivers high quality work products in a timely manner

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and collaboration skills – translates information so it is received and understood clearly with intention

  • Ability to perform in-depth analysis of complex data quickly and communicate insights effectively

  • Drives thoughtful and pragmatic change, inspires innovative thinking and continuous improvement, and models adaptability through resourcefulness, flexibility, and positivity

  • History working as part of a large multi-functional team inclusive of office and field-based stakeholders
