Permian Overview

ConocoPhillips and its heritage companies have operated in the Permian Basin for almost 100 years. Across New Mexico and Texas, the company holds conventional positions in the Northwest Shelf and Central Basin Platform, and an unconventional position in the Delaware Basin. At year-end 2020, the company held about 750 thousand net acres across the basin, with net production of 85 thousand barrels of oil equivalent per day. ConocoPhillips is committed to being an innovative and environmentally responsible operator, and the new technologies and practices that it is using in this area exemplify that.

In January 2021, ConocoPhillips completed the acquisition of Concho Resources Inc., greatly expanding the company’s position in the Permian Basin. The addition of 550,000 net acres complements the company’s position in the Delaware and Midland Basins and created a sizeable Permian presence.

Description

If you are chosen for this position, you will partner with the Permian Land Asset Teams in acquiring and maintaining oil & gas leases and Exploration & Production contracts. In addition, you will be a key contact for mineral owner questions, issues or demands.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Researching and analyzing leases and contracts

  • Inputting complex data entries into well planning systems when setting up operated and non-operated wells, this includes calculating and determining working interest and net revenue interest in new wells, recompletions, and non-consents

  • Inputting lease data information into Quorum Land System (i.e. ownership, burdens, payment, legal segments and depths), lease and contract obligations, expirations and payment

  • Gathering and analyzing data for monthly lease and contract obligation reports

  • Maintaining databases that track working interest ownership in wells, federal units & participating area expansions

  • Creating various reports from Land Systems, Spotfire and Business Objects pertaining to critical leases, contracts, agreements, acreage reporting, cessation of production, etc

  • Emphasis is on research, creating various reports, and analysis of data

  • Advising and making decisions on due diligence efforts to cure title when divesting or acquiring acreage

  • Making recommendations to internal groups such as Finance, Land and Asset Teams on managing budgets as it relates to Exploration Lease Acquisitions, Developed Lease Acquisitions, Mineral Impairments, Transfers-to-Producing, Exchanges and other related land transactions

  • Developing and maintaining network relationships with government agencies, lessors, mineral owners and partners

  • Developing and maintaining network relationships with other groups within the company, i.e., Legal, Finance, Accounting, Tax, Production and Auditing

Qualifications:

Basic/Required:

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States as a U.S. citizen or national, or an alien admitted as permanent resident, refugee or asylee

  • 3 years of experience analyzing oil and gas leases and Exploration and Production contracts

  • Intermediate level of proficiency with common industry land systems i.e. Quorum (or other Land System), ArcMap, Web maps, Business Objects, and Spotfire

  • Intermediate level of proficiency with Microsoft O365

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Energy Management or Energy Commerce

  • Professional Lease or Title Analyst Certification
