Permian Overview

ConocoPhillips and its heritage companies have operated in the Permian Basin for almost 100 years. Across New Mexico and Texas, the company holds conventional positions in the Northwest Shelf and Central Basin Platform, and an unconventional position in the Delaware Basin. At year-end 2017, the company held about 1 million net acres across the basin, with net production of 60 thousand barrels of oil equivalent per day. The primary role of Delaware Systems Specialist is to provide operations with day-to-day troubleshooting and technical support for all instrument and electrical equipment within the Delaware Basin asset area. The position works closely with vendors, contractors, engineering, and operations in support of these field assets. The position will also be required to effectively work with other personnel within the systems group as well as direct/supervise contract electrical crews to complete tasks which they are assigned.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Understand and align with all applicable regulatory guidelines and safety policies and procedures

  • Perform all duties with a concentration on safety, environmental protection, and regulatory compliance

  • Perform work activity and provide technical assistance for installation, programming, calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of instrument and electrical equipment

  • Perform preventative maintenance (PM) and corrective maintenance (CM) work as scheduled and submit closure reports in a timely manner

  • Respond to SAP notifications and work order requests utilizing the P&S prioritization matrix

  • Guide/schedule contract crews with a focus on crew optimization and minimization of production downtime

  • Work a rotating callout schedule that includes weekends, with an ability to respond to callouts within driving time plus 30 minutes

  • You will actively focus on collaboration across the organization and when working with support groups

  • Actively concentrate on BBS observations and LSR verification when on location

  • Complete and maintain required safety/regulatory training, both classroom and computer based training (CBT)

  • Maintaining current and accurate documentation of maintenance activities

  • Responsibly represent the SPIRIT values in every aspect of the business



  • Legally authorized to work in the United States

  • 3 years of instrumentation and/or electrical experience

  • Valid driver's license

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

  • Willing and able (with or without reasonable accommodations) to perform/comply with following:

  • Work at heights ranging up to 25 feet

  • To raise and transport articles weighing up to 50 pounds

  • To walk, stand, stoop, sit, climb, and carry material every single day on even and uneven terrain

  • Work outside in harsh weather conditions

  • Work alone a high percentage of the work schedule

  • Travel up to 30% of the time

  • Wear personal protective equipment (PPE)

  • Be on a rotating on-call schedule which includes weekends

  • Work unscheduled overtime


  • Associate's degree in Instrumentation & Electrical (I&E) or related degree field

  • 5 years of experience as an I&E technician in the oil and gas industry

  • Understands SCADA & radio systems

  • Proficient in API, NFPA, NEC, and OSHA as it pertains to the I&E field

  • Previous experience of technical knowledge and training to maintain instrument and electrical equipment

  • Previous experience working with electronics --- both digital and analog circuitry including drawings and schematics

  • Maintain high level of technical ability around instrument and electrical equipment

  • Strong teammate with the ability to work safely and manage a very diverse workload

  • Proficient (ability to perform tasks with little assistance) with Word, Excel & Power Point

  • Proficient in troubleshooting/programming PLC’s and HMI’s

  • Proficient in C&E’s, P&ID’s

  • Understands ethernet, serial, and modbus communications

  • Proficient in POC’s

  • Understands AC/DC circuits and equipment associated with each

  • Takes ownership of actions and follows through on dedications by fearlessly dealing with important problems, holding others accountable, and standing up for what is right

  • Delivers results through realistic planning to accomplish goals

  • Generates effective solutions based on available information and makes timely decisions that are safe and ethical
