ConocoPhillips is seeking a highly qualified and motivated technical individual for the position of Technical Learning Advisor . The successful candidate will take a lead role in managing the technical training and development initiatives, projects, strategy as well as researching potential learning solutions in support of the development of our Global Technical Function employees (Subsurface – Geoscience, Reservoir; Global Production – Production, Facilities; Wells – Drilling, Completions)

This individual will need to have demonstrated the ability to have strong interpersonal and consulting skills in addition to their technical skills in order to engage with multiple stakeholders across Business Units and Functions. Additionally, a deep understanding of our business is a benefit, as we are looking to apply Learning and Development solutions to improve performance across all areas. Finally, the ability to manage multiple projects at various stages of development as well as intensity is a plus. In summary, here is a list of key skills that we are requiring:

Responsibilities may include:

  • Lead the learning and development efforts with collaboration, planning, and stakeholder management within specific areas of responsibility between Technical Training and ConocoPhillips’ Technical Functions and various stakeholders in the Global Business Units

  • Ensure all Learning and Development solutions are aligned with the needs and requirements of the business.

  • Perform Technical Training and Development front end analysis and needs assessments with the Technical Functions and Business Units

  • Provide support in the development and maintenance of technical curricula across all stages of an employee’s career. Work with multiple disciplines and business units to incorporate new skills, applications, and technologies into the curricula

  • Provide periodic updates on learning plans and programs to senior leaders in Technology, Business Units as well as with other functional groups within ConocoPhillips

  • Lead, manage, and resource learning projects at various stages of the development lifecycle

  • Partner with the business to create, analyze and apply learning applications, metrics and measure performance impact

  • Provide technical and strategic support to the Technical Training team with the analysis, design and implementation of training and development programs, projects, processes, and performance aids (job aids, performance support systems)

  • Provide research and insight regarding best learning practices and learning solutions to improve performance

  • Evaluate the impact of learning solutions by:

  • Reviewing and evaluating past instructor and course performance

  • Reviewing resulting performance of learners

  • Reviewing and evaluating performance and cost analysis of external training suppliers

  • Applying data analysis

  • Provide budgetary as well as required support forecasts and ensure execution of annual learning plan

  • Address benchmarking initiatives with peer operators, service companies, and also include non-industry representation

  • Engage with and travel when appropriate to Business Unit locations on a regular basis to collaborate with stakeholders and ensure quality, consistency, and support of learning plans and program delivery

  • Interact with appropriate Talent Management Teams (TMTs) to solicit learning and development requirements, competency alignment, and to provide input for talent movement, etc.

  • Interact with various groups within HR to share best practices and ensure proper execution of courses, programs and curricula. These include but are not limited to Learning Operations, Learning Technology, and Learning Delivery



  • Legally authorized to work in the United States

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering, Geoscience, Human Resources, Organizational Development, or Business or Technical related discipline

  • 7 years of direct experience in the petroleum industry

  • 3 years of experience partnering and/or consulting with key business leaders

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

  • Experience in facilitating and managing several projects simultaneously


  • Masters Degree Engineering, Geoscience, Organizational Development, Human Resources or Business or Technical related discipline

  • Comprehensive understanding of business processes, policies, procedures, contracts and product offerings

  • Solid working knowledge of relevant industry and innovative technologies that are being introduced

  • Executive presence – ability to build credibility with, consult to, and build strong relationships with senior clients

  • Proficient in SharePoint

  • Experience applying and utilizing Data Analytics

  • Proficient in Spotfire

  • Builds positive relationships across organizations that foster a strong work environment

  • Demonstrates a strong commitment to delivering results while maintaining a safe environment

  • Experience and Knowledge in the Learning and Development field

  • Experience in multiple roles and/or BU locations

  • Ability to work effectively with multiple disciplines in a team environment
