ESOI Geosciences Structure, Stratigraphy and Pressure Overview:
The Structure, Stratigraphy and Pressure team (SSP) lies within the Geoscience group in the Exploration, Subsurface and Other International (ESOI) organization. SSP provides technical support, training and mentoring for ConocoPhillips exploration, appraisal and development programs worldwide. Additionally, SSP leads various technology development programs supported by a variety of joint industry programs with the objectives of driving innovation and advancing our capabilities in sedimentology, stratigraphy, structure and tectonics, geomechanics, stress, fracturing and pore pressure. We work closely with other colleagues in ESOI Subsurface teams to deliver subject matter expertise across a diverse set of worldwide conventional, unconventional and oil sands projects and assets.
The role reports to the Manager - Structure, Stratigraphy and Pressure in the ESOI Geosciences organization. The position is responsible for collaboratively supporting global technical projects through direct project work and mentoring, co-leading a technology development project and developing and leading various differential training programs for global staff. The successful candidate is also responsible for developing and championing best practices and innovative techniques to drive value creation.
Responsibilities May Include:
Partnering with exploration through to development teams to provide global stratigraphy, depositional systems and sedimentology support; execution of seismic stratigraphy evaluations on 2D & 3D seismic data sets.
Provide advice on stratigraphy and sedimentology across a wide range of basins and structural settings and across regional, prospect and field scales through informal working sessions, peer review and management review settings.
In collaboration with the broader SSP team, lead the development of stratigraphic interpretation skills and technology within ConocoPhillips and define approaches and workflows to applied problems to develop solutions which can be tailored to various business units.
Provide stratigraphic expertise and mentorship to the broader ConocoPhillips geoscience community through formal training (in-house differential technical classroom and field courses), mentoring, technical meetings, software applications, workflows, etc.
Familiarity with and execution of sedimentologic, stratigraphic, seismic stratigraphic and geomodelling (i.e., rocks to models and training image) workflows.
Generating integrated subsurface assessments of exploration and appraisal opportunities, providing bid round recommendations for new acreage acquisition and performing regional scale play evaluations.
Providing high quality regional stratigraphic synthesis from well logs, cores, outcrops, laboratory data and seismic interpretations.
Constructing predictive sequence stratigraphic frameworks to support exploration and appraisal evaluations and proactive sharing of stratigraphic and sedimentology expertise.
Performing stratigraphic core descriptions, reservoir quality assessments and integrating these with SCAL data and petrophysical evaluations.
Integration of multiple data types and datasets to develop gross depositional environment (GDE) maps, depositional model frameworks, and alternative viable geologic scenarios.
Steering existing joint industry programs and initiating fit-for-purpose projects that are aligned with our technology development themes and portfolio technical challenges.
Effective partnering across the company with technology experts and other exploration, appraisal and development teams to ensure successful sharing and capture of innovative concepts.
Ability to communicate concepts and recommendations clearly, both orally and in writing, to business unit and ESOI clients in a collaborative manner.
Master’s degree in Geoscience with emphasis in stratigraphy and / or sedimentology.
7 years of geoscience or other applicable professional experience.
Experience as a seismic stratigraphic interpreter.
Advanced level of understanding of well-log interpretation of facies and stratigraphic correlation of well-logs
Expert level of proficiency in core description, sampling, and general understanding of the use of core data
Ability and aptitude to teach differential training related to sedimentology and stratigraphy
PhD degree in Geoscience with emphasis in stratigraphy and / or sedimentology.
Legally authorized to work in the United States
Proficiency in Petrel, Geoteric, Paleoscan and WellCad
Excellent knowledge sharing and communication skillset
Field work experience and knowledge of applications of outcrop analogs.
Delivers results through realistic planning to accomplish goals
Generates effective solutions based on available information and makes timely decisions that are safe and ethical.
