To be selected for the Senior/Staff Reservoir Geomechanicist role, you must have prior geomechanics experience in both conventional and unconventional reservoir development. If selected, you will provide geomechanics expertise to major ConocoPhillips assets globally. The work will include performing detailed study on predicting dynamic behavior of stress sensitive reservoirs due to the interaction of reservoir and overburden geomechanical characteristics including reservoir development and operating plans with the objective of safely managing and optimizing the asset.
If selected, you will be encouraged to be able to interpret field, laboratory or log data to implement, validate, and calibrate appropriate methods to solve reservoir scale geomechanics related problems.
Additionally, this role will help to design and execute future Technology Development programs in unconventional reservoirs including participation in selected JIP’s.
The selected candidate's expertise must be based on a clear understanding of physics and mechanics of the subsurface. The ideal candidate should be a self-starter and can work independently with minimal supervision to build and solve geomechanics related problems of varying complexities.
Your responsibilities may include:
Perform integrated studies to improve the design of fractured horizontal wells
Conduct reservoir characterization and uncertainty study in both conventional and shale resources
Developing production strategies for risk mitigation with minimized production curtailment
Generating 3D mechanical earth models to analyze stress distribution and predict reservoir compaction, subsidence and well integrity
Participate in peer reviews and assists in support of geomechanical analysis
Occasional travel to BU offices to support critical reservoir geomechanics-related study
Assist Unconventional BU partners in assessing development sequence and stacking optimizations and risk mitigation
Advise BU partners on pilot objectives and data acquisition relating to reducing geomechanical risks
Master’s degree or higher in mechanical, petroleum or related engineering field or foreign equivalent
3 years of experience in applying geomechanics in the context of reservoir development, management and performance prediction
1 years of experience with reservoir and geomechanics numerical simulators
Advanced level of knowledge in fully coupled flow-geomechanics simulation workflows
Advanced coding skills in Python, Matlab, etc.
Willing and able (with or without a reasonable accommodation) to travel 10% on an annual basis
5 years of experience in applying geomechanics in the context of reservoir development, management and performance prediction
PhD degree in mechanical, petroleum or related engineering field
Proven track record for delivering results
Experience with Abaqus (or similar) finite element simulation software
Strong understanding of reservoir surveillance and field management
