Job Description
ConocoPhillips Australia was established almost two decades ago, with its Australian headquarters located in Brisbane.
At ConocoPhillips Australia, our focus is on safely and reliably supply ing our Australian and international customers with natural gas and liquefied natural gas (LNG). Natural gas is integral to meeting energy demand over the coming decades to support Australia’s energy needs and enable the global energy transition.
We are the l argest shareholder of Australia Pacific LNG, one of the largest producers of natural gas in eastern Australia and operate the LNG facility on Curtis Island, Gladstone.
We are also an exploration company and are continuing to plan and prepare for exploration activities in the Otway Basin , off the coast of Victoria, with the aim of identifying commercially viable natural gas reserves to support Australia’s demand for reliable, affordable energy for households and manufa cturers .
About the Role
Based in Brisbane or Victoria , the Senior Stakeholder and Communications Advisor plays a vital role in shaping the leadership and strategic direction of stakeholder engagement and project communication activities for our natural gas exploration program in the Otway Basin . Reporting to the Corporate Communications Manager, the role will be responsible for communication and engagement that uphold ConocoPhillips’ values, business objectives, and regulatory requirements to meet key exploration milestones.
This role is accountable for ConocoPhillips’ consultation and stakeholder engagement for its exploration opportunities. As a brand ambassador and the primary contact for stakeholders, you will ensure transparent and responsive communication, while also collaborating with internal teams to secure social license and integrate stakeholder perspectives.
To support ConocoPhillips’ exploration project, you will:
Implement the company’s stakeholder engagement strategy.
Foster open and transparent relationships, including with communities, First Nations peoples, industry bodies, government, and government agencies.
Deliver effective communication material and supporting platforms for community and stakeholder consultation.
Work across complex and changing issues, applying strong skills in stakeholder management and risk mitigation.
Provide strategic communications advice, issues management, and digital communications.
To support ConocoPhillips’ internal and external affairs objectives:
Manage and support new communications initiatives and programs; maintain and improve existing programs.
Actively participate in crisis communications preparedness and management.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Develop and execute comprehensive stakeholder engagement strategies and plans, working closely with both internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure a collaborative and integrated approach that aligns with project objectives and strategic priorities.
Track and analy se engagement activities, at times overseeing the work of contracting partners to ensure alignment with project requirements and timelines.
Oversee the preparation of regulatory reports and submissions from Consultation Manager and make proactive adjustments to data strategies as needed.
Ensure adherence to corporate policy as it relates to public communications.
Ensure continuing compliance with ongoing social conditions, commitments, and reporting structures.
Ensure all stakeholder communications are adequately tracked, documented, and disseminated in a manner that meets regulatory requirements and ConocoPhillips’ standards for audit and sustainability reporting.
Provide advice on strategic direction where risks to stakeholder perceptions are apparent or potentially likely.
Understand and promote ConocoPhillips’ sustainability frameworks and their application.
Mentoring and guiding other team members.
You will bring to the role

Tertiary qualifications in communications, public policy, science, arts, politics, humanities, or a related discipline.
Minimum of 10 years of experience in stakeholder relations or communications.
Strategic planning, analytical, and research skills.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Attention to detail, with a compliance focus.
Ability to meet deadlines.
Strong team player.
Diplomacy and dispute resolution skills.
Demonstrated ability to manage complex multi-disciplinary projects across functions.
Ability to represent the company at external events, functions, and meetings.
Encourages creativity, innovation, and continuous improvement.
Flexibility to attend interstate engagement events and meetings, and travel 2-4 days a month when required.
Open driver’s license.
Demonstrated experience working in stakeholder relations for complex projects (preferred).
Ability to use consultation software, including Consultation Manager and Social Pinpoint (preferred).
