Position Summary

Accounting/Finance employees will typically begin their ConocoPhillips career in Bartlesville, Oklahoma or Houston, Texas. Job description and responsibilities will vary depending on the first job assignment.

The Finance organization has positions in Financial and Commercial Services, Financial and Performance Analysis, External Reporting, Consolidations, Tax, Treasury, and Audit. Whether assigned to a corporate finance function or a regional business unit, you’ll be responsible for providing finance, accounting, business analysis, and decision support to operations and management.

Responsibilities may include:

Providing accounting, business analysis, and decision support to operations and management. Typical duties could include: revenue, cost or investment accounting, government reporting, working with other companies on crude, gas or product imbalances and exchanges, or internal auditing, management reporting and analysis, federal and state tax filing and compliance, and credit administration.

During your first year, you will attend the Finance Onboarding Workshop which is designed to acclimate new hires to the company and culture. The workshop consists of short training sessions led by experienced Finance professionals within the company. The curriculum focus is to provide a new hire with an overview of career development concepts and sets out to achieve early career training, promote a team environment and establish early networks.

After a minimum of one year of experience in a Finance position, you will be eligible for nomination to attend the Finance Excellence Program (FEP). This is a 6-week program designed to provide the participant in-depth understanding and knowledge of ConocoPhillips and the energy industry and to help you accelerate the development of the core skills in leadership, networking/teambuilding, initiative, technical/analytical ability and effective communication skills. It is also designed to prepare you for future Finance leadership positions within ConocoPhillips.

The FEP includes an orientation to ConocoPhillips, interactive lectures, workshops and field trips on exploration and production operations, economics, commercial operations, corporate accounting, financial analysis & budgeting, tax, treasury and auditing. You will get a close-up, hands-on overview of ConocoPhillips' energy operations, and gain a network of both peers and management to draw upon throughout your career.

Qualifications:

Basic/Required:

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States as a U.S. citizen or national, or an alien admitted as permanent resident, refugee, asylee or temporary resident under 8 U.S.C. 1160(a) or 1255(a) (1) and will not need sponsorship now or in the future

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or Master's in Accountancy

  • At least 12 hours of Accounting upon graduation

  • Current level in college: Senior or Graduate Student

  • Expected graduation date: Winter 2018 through Spring/Fall 2019

Preferred:

  • A minimum cumulative and major GPA of 3.25 on a 4.0 scale

  • Previous internships or co-ops in an energy related field

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

  • Develops strong relationships based on trust and seeks opportunities to collaborate across the matrix/organizational boundaries to achieve business goals

  • Demonstrates taking ownership of actions and follows through on commitments by courageously dealing with important problems, holding others accountable and standing up for what is right

  • Demonstrates an understanding of how key financial and quantitative indicators impact the business
