Position Summary

The primary function of this position is to provide supervised direct technical safety and occupational health services for an operation or an organization. Business support services may include regulatory review and interpretation, technical calculations and estimations, regulatory permit applications, and plans, proposals and program development. Specific positions may specialize in one or more functional areas, including general accident prevention, fire protection, regulatory compliance, life safety, process safety, occupational health, construction safety and ergonomics.

You will receive diversified training through on-the-job assignments using the technical skills you have acquired in college. The training will be designed to help develop you technically and professionally and will involve personal interaction with both professional and technical employees. Ample opportunity is provided for development of leadership skills. New employees have the opportunity to participate in ConocoPhillips' training for new hires and will participate in Individual Development Planning. Individuals must be willing to travel and/or relocate. Your initial assignment may be within Corporate HSE or a Business Unit located in Alaska or the Lower 48.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Evaluation of hazards, exposures, and general impacts associated with operation of process equipment, facilities, and projects including large-scale construction within an existing facility.

  • Completion of technical documentation, consultation with agencies/contractors, and training and support for operations/field personnel in regulatory/policy compliance

  • Development and production of plans, programs, and procedures guiding regulatory compliance, proper and safe operations, and prevention of undesired consequences

  • Preparation and submission of internal and external reports and related documentation, including formal presentations to small and large groups

  • Assist with development and design of equipment and projects, including cost estimates and operational plans

  • Identification and qualification of outside resources and services

  • Interfacing and coordination of information between internal and external entities, with varying perspectives and interests

  • Lead or participate in incident investigations, field audits and other incident causation and prevention activities.

  • Participate in emergency planning and response activities

  • Implement/design remedial strategies for site restoration and clean-up

Qualifications:

Basic/Required:

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States as a U.S. citizen or national, or an alien admitted as permanent resident, refugee, asylee or temporary resident under 8 U.S.C. 1160(a) or 1255(a) (1) and will not need sponsorship now or in the future

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Industrial Hygiene/ Health, Industrial Safety, Occupational Health & Safety, Public Health, Safety & Fire Protection or HSE related field

  • Level of college: Senior or Graduate Student

  • Expected graduation date: Fall 2018 through Spring/Summer 2019

Preferred:

  • A minimum cumulative and major GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale

  • Previous internships or co-op's in an energy related field

  • Proficient in Microsoft office products

  • Ability to generate effective solutions based on available information and makes timely decisions that are safe and ethical

  • Develops strong relationships based on trust and seeks opportunities to collaborate across the matrix/organizational boundaries to achieve business goals
