Alaska Overview

ConocoPhillips is Alaska’s largest crude oil producer and largest owner of exploration leases, with approximately 1.6 million net undeveloped acres at year-end 2021. The company produced an average of 197 thousand barrels of oil equivalent per day in 2021. ConocoPhillips has major ownership interests in two of North America’s largest oil fields, both located on Alaska’s North Slope—Kuparuk, which the company operates, and Prudhoe Bay. Additionally, ConocoPhillips operates the Alpine Field located on the Western North Slope. The company has an ownership interest in the Trans-Alaska Pipeline System (TAPS) and owns/operates the Polar Tankers fleet.


If you are selected as the Geodata/Seismic Data Analyst/Sr. Analyst, you will work closely with the GGRE business customers, data analysts, and GGRE workflow analysts to ensure the integrity of the data in the Studio & Petrel platform and adherence to business & IT aligned data & application standards. You will be required to have previous data management experience with Well Data, seismic data and preferably Petrel or Petrel Studio. This role is critical to business activities including Exploration & Drilling and will have opportunity to learn from others on the team and share their knowledge with the team also. This position is located in Anchorage, AK.

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Provide leadership, guidance & implementation of Petrel Studio best practices, governance, standards, and conventions

  • Solve deep technical issues when needed

  • Maintain, change, and distribute Global standards & templates

  • Monitor & maintain the Studio Repositories. Experience with Spotfire helpful.

  • Collates, documents, and disseminates Studio data management best practices

  • Ensures data integrity in the Studio platform

  • Load well data into Petrel & Studio

  • Load and QC Seismic data into Petrel Environment

  • Maintain and handle Petrel Studio and Folder architecture for well, seismic and interpretation data and Petrel’s Ecosystem application related project files (e.g., Petrosys, Techlog, Hampson Russell projects etc.)

  • Create and maintain workflows and scripts to improve the efficiency of

  • Petrel / Studio data quality and information management practices

  • Coordinate seismic data loading and delivery with Alaska Exploration & Development and Geoscience Data Team

  • Petrel Studio, and File System User Access Management and Auditing



  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States as a U.S. citizen or national, or an alien admitted as a permanent resident, refugee or asylee

  • 3 years of Experience working with subsurface well data

  • Basic knowledge of subsurface data workflows

  • Basic Geodetics understanding

  • Basic proficiency with well data management in subsurface applications e.g., Petrel, Landmark, ATDB, and Geolog

  • Willing and able (with or without reasonable accommodation) to travel 10% of the time on a yearly basis


  • 5 years of Experience working with subsurface Well & Seismic data

  • Well data management in Studio

  • Petrel & Petrel Studio Administration

  • Petrel SRD understanding, experience & implications

  • Seismic data loading & management – Studio & Petrel.

  • CRS management in Studio & Petrel

  • Well tops stratigraphy & Global well logs management

  • Petrel data tagging & Petrel folder management

  • Strong communication skills and an ability to influence peers and stakeholders

  • Petrel workflow creation – Intermediate to advanced

  • Petrel managed project configuration and management

  • Deep understanding of information systems and structured & unstructured data

  • Intermediate SQL query writing and performance tuning expertise

  • Intermediate scripting experience (Python, Perl, PL/SQL, .NET etc.)

  • Experience in Seismic data management (Pre and Post stack trace data)

  • Experience in Seismic navigation (including geospatial positioning)

  • Excellent problem-solving skills

  • Delivers positive results through realistic planning to accomplish goals

  • Builds effective solutions based on available information and makes timely decisions that are safe and ethical
